Sloan Caitlin Cancer Center

The Sloan Caitlin Cancer Center (MSKCC) is the oldest and largest private cancer center in the world. The earliest predecessor was jointly established in 1884 by the John J. Astor couple et al New York Cancer Hospital, the first acne falls on the upper west side of Manhattan (Upper West Side of Manhattan). In 1936, John D. Rockefeller, Jr donated a piece of land to the York Street (York Avenue) to the hospital. In 1939, a memorial hospital (Memorial Hospital) was established in this new site. In 1940s, two former heads of general motors, Alfred P. Sloan and Charles F. Kettering established the Sloan Caitlin Institute (Sloan-Kettering Institute) near the Memorial Hospital. In 1948, SKI began to cooperate with Memorial Hospital. In 1980, the Sloan Caitlin cancer center was formally incorporated. In 2004, the center established a Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. biomedical graduate school, providing a PhD degree education in cancer biology. The center currently has more than 9000 employees, including 717 attending staff, a memorial hospital and 123 members of SKI. In 2006, 21000 patients were admitted to 431160 outpatients. The number of beds was 425.
